IME Lunch supported by Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Transportation, ASCOATINDO and INSA
Jakarta – ASIA TODAY - PT Reed Panorama Exhibition (RPE) supported by Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Transportation, Indonesian Coating Association (ASCOATINDO) and Indonesian Ship Owner Association (INSA) proudly announced the launch of IME 2013 today. The event was created to host some of the biggest maritime players in Indonesia and the region, fostering knowledge sharing through the latest technologies in use and sharing creative feedback on moving the industry forward through this world class event. IME is a sister event of Asia Pacific Maritime and Kormarine which are both organised by Reed Exhibitions.
Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in the world with 17,480 islands, two thirds of which consists of water, its sea transportation plays an important role in both its economic development and national defense. Situated strategically between the continents of Asia and Australia/Oceania; and between the pacific and Indian Oceans, Indonesia is in the midst of Asia Pacific’s fastest growing economic region. With its positive geographical location and a huge population of more than 240 million peoples, it is a must visit market that meets investors demands and garners fruitful returns for the maritime industry.
Mrs. Carmelita Hartoto, Chairman of INSA stated that “there is an increase of up to 1,000 units in the number of Indonesian ships built each year. PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) III will construct additional docks as long as 400m and upgrade its facilities at Teluk Lamong multipurpose terminals so as to alleviate potential congestion in 2014.”
Indonesia’s maritime industry growth still remains at a good 6.3% year on year in the first quarter of 2012 and is expected to pick up in 2013, moving to 6.4%, making it one of the nation’s growth potentials for trade activity.
Activity in the country, has accounted for nearly 1 billion tons of cargo in offshore marine, with inter island loads within the country reaching 300 million tons, while international cargo reached 560 million tons.
The fleet capacity of commercial vessels has already peaked at 11,000 units with a capacity of 14 million in gross tonnage.
Mrs. Carmelita commented that “INSA has given a high appreciation for the organisation of Indonesia Maritime Expo 2013. This is a bi-annual event that will encourage our efforts to strengthen maritime cooperation between all stakeholders simultaneously and measure our strength in competing in the global marketplace. We expect this activity to continue and to be held every consecutive year.”
Riding on the success of IME in 2011, which brought together major local and international exhibitors over three days. INSA, ASCOATINDO and both The Ministry of Transportation and The Ministry of Industry concluded a long term agreement to support RPE in the organisation of Indonesian Maritime Expo in its 4th Edition in 2013.
The exhibition will be held from the 5th – 7th September 2013 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC). JCC was chosen due to its strategic location and easy accessibility. Its facilities and location will attract International marine & offshore professionals from the maritime industry. In addition, there will also be interest to promote new technological ideas and innovative products that can improve the Indonesian maritime industry and see it grow further in the years to come. IME 2013 will be the event to allow any related business to maximise its potential both in the domestic market as well as internationally. IME 2013 will also host an international conference to facilitate networking and the transfer of knowledge and experiences between domestic and international stakeholders. The conference will be represented by both world renowned speakers as well as leading Indonesian players who will focus on cutting edge topical issues that are pressing the Indonesian maritime market.
Mr. Clive Phillips, General Manager of RPE is optimistic that the exhibition will soon become ASEAN’s must-attend event for all local and international maritime industry professionals, to keep abreast of the latest developments. “We are excited to make IME 2013 the premier maritime event in Indonesia, with our goal of promoting the Indonesian maritime industry to the world and Indonesia’s ship builders to a regional business platform for those who wish to expand their businesses in Indonesia and beyond.”
