Hong Kong (January 29, 2012) –(ASIA TODAY)- APCO Worldwide appoints Amy Wendholt as managing director of the firm’s Hong Kong office, Kenneth Jarrett, chairman of APCO’s Greater China region, announced today. Wendholt has been with APCO for more than five years, previously based in Beijing and serving as lead of the office’s government relations practice.

“Amy has remarkable talent in developing client service teams and creating innovative stakeholder engagement strategies, and we are delighted to bring her experience and leadership capabilities to Hong Kong," said Jarrett. "Her strong business management skills paired with her substantial experience with APCO in mainland China makes her an ideal person to lead and expand our business in this important regional hub.”

Wendholt brings to the office exceptional client service, management and leadership qualities stemming from her experience advising corporations, governments, nonprofit organisations and trade associations on communication strategies. She also leads the region’s health care practice, working with pharmaceutical, medical device and medical services clients across Asia Pacific as they confront the challenges of this dynamic region. She will continue her regional health care responsibilities from Hong Kong.

“I am honoured to lead our Hong Kong team and build on the company’s great heritage in the market,” said Wendholt. “APCO’s Hong Kong office boasts incredible talent, fascinating client work and a great culture and I am enthusiastic about the opportunities ahead as we continue to expand our integrated Asia offering in the region and around the world.”

Wendholt arrived in China in 2004 and served as a visiting scholar at the Central University of Finance and Economics and the Beijing Administrative College, an institution which trains Communist Party civil servants, administrators and scholars. She also worked at Hill & Knowlton’s Beijing office with their government and policy affairs team. Before arriving in China, Wendholt spent six years in Washington, D.C., working on Capitol Hill supporting the appropriations process as a budget analyst at the Congressional Budget Office and as a researcher for the AEI-Brookings Joint Center for Regulatory Studies. She also consulted for federal, provincial and local governments on budget and spending issues both in the United States and China.

Wendholt’s appointment strengthens APCO’s senior team in Hong Kong, including: Mark Michelson, chairman of the Asia CEO Forum for IMA Asia and former chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong; CT Hew, former managing partner of Scotchbrook-BSMG Worldwide and former vice chairman of a major PR firm in Hong Kong; Kenneth Jarrett, former U.S. deputy consul general in Hong Kong; and Tamora Chan, veteran journalist with Reuters in Beijing, Paris, Hong Kong and Singapore.
