HONG KONG, CHINA -- Media OutReach -- 6 June 2014 -- Showcasing the latest retail technologies and opportunities from Asia and around the world, this year's Retail Asia Expo 2014 is set to be a catalyst for industry change. More than 160 exhibitors and close to 10,000 retail professionals from more than 50 countries are expected at the influential event, being held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 10 to 12 June.

Now in its sixth year, Retail Asia Expo is firmly established as the region's premier retail trade fair. The uniquely Asia-focused event is an inspiring combination of exhibitions, seminars, awards and networking opportunities.

Stuart Bailey, General Manager of Diversified Communications HK LLC., the organiser of Retail Asia Expo, said: "By embracing innovation and the need for agility, retailers can be ready to drive customer engagement and loyalty in today's more competitive business environment. Across the industry, the rapid growth of online retailing, the rise of the omni-channel customer and the coming Internet of Things present opportunities as well as challenges. Retail Asia Expo 2014 has been carefully crafted to let Asia's retailers access all the newest and most exciting ideas, tools and technologies in one place, over an intense three days."

Retail Asia Expo 2014 includes three distinct exhibition and seminar streams this year: Retail Technology, Retail Design & In-Store Marketing and, for the first time, eCommerce World. Running concurrently with the Omni-Channel Retailing Conference, the event will also include the popular Senses Generate Sales multi-sensory design pavilion featuring Materia, as well a new Interior Designers Forum and a Gala Dinner at which the Hong Kong Retail Industry Trade Awards will be presented.

Trends and Solutions
Reflecting the multi-faceted nature of modern retailing, Retail Asia Expo 2014 presents three specialized shows. Taken together, they underscore the importance of online-to-offline (O2O) commerce to the future of retailing. This blending of the online and offline worlds -- where businesses find customers online and then attract them into offline stores -- can help maximize sales and customer loyalty.

• The Retail Technology Expo presents a wide array of technology solutions for the retail and hospitality markets. These include point of sale (POS) systems, RFID tracking systems, mobile applications and security systems from large international manufacturers and solutions providers, as well regional and local innovators.

• The Retail Design & In-Store Marketing Expo features all elements of shop design and visual marketing, with an emphasis on the latest interior design, flooring, displays and lighting to help retailers and contractors create customized and unique in-store experiences.

• The eCommerce World Expo helps unlock the possibilities for retailers setting up online shopping platforms to complement traditional business models. Mobile applications that boost sales, sophisticated payment and logistics solutions and other ways to build omni-channel competitiveness will be presented.

Sensory Shopping with Materia
Retail Asia Expo will again present the inspiring Senses Generate Sales & Green Retailing pavilion, an installation that demonstrates how retailers can use visual and multi-sensory design to create positive impressions of their products and brands.

This year the pavilion will host a special exhibition by Materia of the Netherlands. A global leader in the area of innovative materials, Materia will showcase new sustainable materials, including interactive smart materials, in Hong Kong. Such materials change colour, translucency, hardness or size in response to changes in the environment, helping retailers to communicate their brand identity and increase brand appeal. They may also generate energy from the differing environmental conditions, such as pressure or temperature changes. Materia creative director Els Zijlstra will also present a seminar in the Interior Designers Forum.

Mobile Loyalty Marketing
Cherrypicks, a global leader in mobile innovation, is giving Expo attendees the chance to experience one of its O2O platforms during the trade fair: the keewee loyalty and marketing solution. Participants who download the location-based keewee mobile app will automatically collect e-stamps when they arrive at designated locations throughout the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. These e-stamps can then be redeemed for gifts, such as a SHARP 40" Full HD iDTV and a Samsung Galaxy S5 to name a few.

Exhibitors and Seminars
More than 160 local and international suppliers will showcase the latest retail design and technology solutions at Retail Asia Expo 2014. Exhibitors include E Tag (security systems), G4S (cash management), Displaydata (electronic shelf labels), Four Directions (mobile commerce), Accentrix (leasing management system), Global Payments (payment processing), Urovo (data collection), Wacom (signature display), Sam Hing (weighing and filling machine), IWT (anonymous face recognition technology), PCCW-HKT (smart coupon), Redmoon (touch screen POS), LUX (interior design and product display design & production), Ningbo ITG (energy-saving projector), Art King (digital printing), Provideo (digital signage), Megaman (lighting), and Wing Wah (showcase lamps).

Many leading global suppliers will also discuss market and ecommerce trends and new technology and design solutions in a series of more than 30 seminars during the three-day Expo. Speakers will cover a range of topics such as ecommerce opportunities, social media, mobility, O2O commerce, supply chain solutions, retail design, branding and creative shopping.

Omni-Channel Conference: Consistency in a Dynamic Environment
Held alongside Retail Asia Expo on 10 and 11 June, the Omni-Channel Conference will be an opportunity for senior executives from across Asia Pacific to engage with expert speakers from around the world. In a compressed one-day programme, these industry leaders will discuss strategies and best practices, and share insights into the shifting retail landscape. Amsterdam -- (ACN Newswire) -- Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security announces that Flaircomm Microelectronics Inc., a high-tech company developing devices for the automotive industry, is integrating Gemalto's M2M solution in their telematics control unit (T-Box). The solution designed for car manufacturers in China includes the Cinterion(R) MIM and integrates smoothly with in-car cellular networks.

The T-box is ruggedized for extreme conditions including high temperatures, pressures and vibrations. It can inform the driver of the car conditions such as oil pressure, car speed, and engine status, as well as providing information on nearest amenities like petrol stations and convenience stores. If the car breaks down or is involved in an accident, an emergency call (eCall) will also be triggered automatically for assistance and medical help.

"According to Strategy Analysts, the connected car market in China could exceed RMB 200 billion (EUR 23.5 billion) by 2020," said Luke Shi, Chairman of Flaircomm Microelectronics Inc. "Working with Gemalto puts us in a good position to address that mega-trend. Stand-alone Cinte Techtextil China to be larger this year

Growing potential in Asian technical textiles market attracting overseas exhibitors
Leading companies from 12 industry sectors to take part

The countdown to Asia’s leading biennial trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens continues as the industry’s leading players prepare for Cinte Techtextil China. Held from 24 to 26 September at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre nearly 500 exhibitors are expected to participate, an increase compared to the previous edition which sees an extra hall and a total of 35,000 sqm of exhibition space in use.

This year marks a change from the last fair held in 2012, with the show no longer held concurrently with Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics. According to Wendy Wen, Senior General Manager of fair co-organiser Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, this stand-alone version will be more beneficial for participants. “Holding the fair independently from Intertextile ensures the visitor profile will be more specific to the industry,” she said. “This gives overseas companies greater opportunity to promote their products and enhance their brands in the fast-growing Asian market.”

Growing potential in Asian technical textiles market attracting overseas exhibitors

This expanding market is providing a range of new opportunities for overseas firms to tap into. Industrial protective equipment is just one of these, as countries in the region, in particular China and India, still have large numbers of unprotected industrial workers. Couple this with the fact that Asia remains the leading global manufacturing hub, and there are huge opportunities in the region. Concordia Textiles is one exhibitor that sees this potential in the region in the near future. “More awareness of protecting workers will enlarge the demand for protective work wear that meets specific quality standards,” explained Dirk De Locht from Concordia. The Belgium company will showcase their European- and Chinese-made fabrics for heavy-duty work wear, waterproof & breathable and heat & flame protective garments at the fair that meet a range of EN and IEC standards. In addition to these they are also exhibiting new multi-risk protection fabrics.

German firm PHP Fibers GmbH, producers of industrial filament yarns and exhibiting for the fifth time, see the same potential. “We are already selling to China and Korea, but we see potential for growth due to the increasing demand for cars in Asia and the resulting boost in production in the region,” outlined Guangze Song from PHP’s Shanghai office. “As the automotive market grows in China and throughout Asia, we forecast increased demand for our airbag fabrics.”

Leading companies from 12 industry sectors to take part

Companies from the full industry spectrum will be at the fair, with product groups and application areas including technology and machinery, woven and knitted fabrics, nonwovens, coated textiles, composites, surface and bonding techniques, fibres and yarns, and more on display. The Santex Group from Switzerland is one such exhibitor and has more than 30 years of experience producing textile finishing machines, laminating and coating plants, and prepreg lines. Their Santex brand features machinery for knits and woven fabrics, while the Cavitec brand focuses on prepreg and impregnation lines for high-tech composites, and laminating and coating machines.

French exhibitor Protechnic is a regular attendant of Techtextil fairs around the world, and produces hot-melt thermo-adhesive webs, nets and films for dry lamination. They sell to more than 50 countries across the globe and make products for industries as diverse as automotive, aviation, building, renewable energy and sports. According to the company, the complexity of the polymers they use, such as copolyamide, copolyester, polyolefin and polyurethane, enables them to provide a wide range of customised solutions for the lamination of many composite materials.

Cinte Techtextil China is organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd; the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT; and the China Nonwovens & Industrial Textiles Association (CNITA).

Event continues to draw delegates across the government, international organisations, industry, and academia sectors from more than half of the world's countries/regions, with S$14.5 billion in total value of business announcements.

Singapore, June 10, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - Singapore International Water Week (SIWW), held from 1-5 June 2014, saw S$14.5 billion in total value for the announcements on projects awarded, tenders, investments and MOUs concluded at the event. Held in conjunction with the World Cities Summit and CleanEnviro Summit Singapore, the event attracted more than 20,000 participants from 118 countries/regions spanning the government, international organisations, industry, and academia sectors. The Water Expo at this year's SIWW was the largest edition to date with more than 800 participating companies and 24 Group Pavilions exhibiting over 23,000sqm of covered space. Various announcements on company investments, R&D collaborations and project partnerships were made, underscoring Singapore's stature as a global hydrohub and SIWW's role as the global platform for the co-creation of water solutions.

Some notable examples include the opening of Beijing Enterprises Water Group (BEWG) International's regional hub and the Danish Water Technology House, as well as the location of Xylem's Greater Asia headquarters in Singapore. The new BEWG International Pte Ltd will manage an estimated S$2 billion worth of water investments outside of China. Singapore-based De.Mem signed letters of intent with Vietnamese companies Hanoi Water Works and Dabaco Group to build two decentralised water treatment plants in projects valued at around S$15 million, while Sembcorp Industries will acquire and upgrade an existing wastewater treatment plant in Lianyungang Lingang Chemical Industrial Park in China's Jiangsu province.

The Business Forums saw the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) announce the construction of 6 desalination plants with a total capacity of more than 2.5 million m3/day including the world's largest reverse osmosis plant (600,000 m3/day) in Rabigh, Saudi Arabia. Municipalities and Industrial Parks in Indonesia, Laos, Philippines and Vietnam also shared over S$2 billion dollars' worth of investment projects for prospective solutions providers.

Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) were signed between PUB and companies including Evoqua, Anaergia and Grundfos to explore R&D projects in water treatment. PUB and Evoqua will further develop electrochemical desalination technology to improve energy and cost efficiencies in seawater desalination, while the collaboration with Anaergia focuses on potential waste-to-energy research projects. PUB will work with Grundfos on water innovation in several areas including efficient pump solutions and R&D in wastewater treatment solutions.

"R&D and innovation are at the forefront of the quest for water sustainability, and SIWW connects leaders and organizations across the water ecosystem to exchange ideas and experiences on real-world solutions, establishing valuable partnerships in these areas. The presence and expansion of major global water companies in Singapore also reaffirm Singapore's development as a global hydrohub," said Chew Men Leong, Executive Director, Environment and Water Industry Programme Office and Chief Executive, PUB Singapore.

Prominent global water leaders and decision-makers from the government, international organizations and corporate sector continued to see SIWW as the stage for thought leadership in water issues. Distinguished delegates include Chen Lei, Minister of Water Resources, China; Dr Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water, United Arab Emirates; Kirsten Brosbol, Minister for the Environment, Denmark; Melanie Schultz van Haegen-Maas Geesteranus, Minister for Infrastructure and Environment, The Netherlands; Angel Gurria, Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD); Dr Benedito Braga, President of the World Water Council; Michel Jarraud, Chair of UN-Water and Jean-Louis Chaussade, CEO of Suez Environnement Company.

"We are heartened that stakeholders of the global water ecosystem choose to gather here at SIWW 2014 to shape the future of the water industry," added Maurice Neo, Managing Director, SIWW. "We are confident that SIWW will continue to remain as the platform of choice for the private, public and non-government sectors to meet and collaborate on solutions to address the current and future challenges faced by the water industry."

The introduction of the youth and talent development component, Hydro-gen, which encompasses the HydroPreneur Programme (HPP) and Young Water Leaders Summit (YWLS), received a resounding endorsement from participants and high-level delegates. HPP saw 6 shortlisted teams pitching their innovative ideas on HydroPitch Day to a panel of distinguished names including Dr Andrew Benedek, the winner of the first Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize, and Lord Ronald Oxburgh, Member, House of Lords, United Kingdom. Approximately 40 participants represented the YWLS in the Water Leaders Summit, where they had the opportunity to share their ideas and vision for the water industry with key policy makers and world water leaders.

The third edition of the TechXchange saw water technology innovators from countries such as Australia, the Czech Republic, Israel, Singapore and the United States connecting with over 200 international partners and investors to accelerate the commercialisation of new and innovative water technologies. Participating innovators also displayed prototypes at the first-ever Innovation Pavilion in the sold-out Water Expo 2014.

Participants at this year's event also welcomed the breadth and scope of discussions on industrial water issues. The Water Convention and Hot Issues Workshop saw discussions focusing on technical solutions, while the Industrial Water Solutions Forum focused on efficient water use in the manufacturing sector to help companies achieve productivity and savings, as well as challenges and business opportunities for the Financial, Chemical and Refinery, Electronics, Pharmaceutical, Mining, Food & Beverage, Oil and Gas and Industrial Parks sectors.

In addition, SIWW 2014 saw the debut of #SIWWPledge, a unique corporate social responsibility campaign and the first of its kind in the global water space. Leveraging the power of social media, it aspires to rally the community towards finding new and sustainable technological and financial solutions to meet today's safe water and sanitation needs.

Several key co-located events took place at SIWW 2014, including the 22nd United Nations Secretary-Generals' Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation (UNSGAB) Board Meeting and the Asia Pacific Infrastructure Ministers Meeting (APIMM), which further enhanced SIWW's position as the global platform for water leaders and key decision-makers to lead the way in cocreating innovative water solutions to address global water challenges.

To be held from 10 - 14 July 2016, the 7th Singapore International Water Week will continue to be co-located with the World Cities Summit and the CleanEnviro Summit Singapore. It will be supported by our Strategic Partners, the Asian Development Bank; the International Desalination Association; the International Water Association; the Institute of Water Policy, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy; the Singapore Water Association and the World Bank. Our partners, Founding Sponsors and other sponsors (which comprise a total of 30 local and international water companies) will continue to play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of SIWW. Returning exhibitors have committed more than half of the Water Expo space ahead of SIWW 2016.

HKTDC April Fairs Bring in More Than HK$1.5 Billion to Hong Kong

Picture:

The seven fairs organised in April by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) set new exhibitor and buyer records. Collectively, the fairs welcomed more than 11,000 exhibitors (6,907 from overseas) and 221,000 buyers (126,000 from overseas).

Buyer attendance from Asia surged 7.5 per cent, year-on-year, with the Chinese mainland, India, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam recording considerable increases. Buyers from North America and Europe showed positive sentiment and recorded good growth at the lighting fair, ICT Expo, gift fair and printing fair.

Economic Boost

According to Hong Kong Exhibition & Convention Industry Association estimates, each international exhibitor and international exhibition visitor spent, on average, HK$8,800 and HK$11,000 respectively. Counting overseas fair visitors and assuming that each exhibitor sent two representatives to Hong Kong, the seven fairs brought in more than HK$1.5 billion to Hong Kong. The total does not include business orders and revenue from relevant commercial and trade support, such as accounting, legal and financial services.

HKTDC Deputy Executive Director Benjamin Chau said that the fairs made significant contributions to the Hong Kong economy. “The enlarged scale of the fairs increased business opportunities for the exhibition industry, as well as for the exhibitors and buyers. More business was also generated in industries such as logistics, security, marketing, translation, hotels, and food and beverage.”

Surveys Reveal Market Optimism

The HKTDC commissioned Ipsos, an independent market research agency, to conduct surveys during the lighting, electronics, houseware, and gift fairs. A total of 1,053 exhibitors and 1,712 buyers were interviewed.

“The results are a vote of confidence in Hong Kong’s exhibition industry,” said Mr Chau. He noted that 78 per cent of the buyers interviewed contacted new suppliers during the fairs, while 88 per cent of the exhibitors met new buyers during the fairs, up from 75 per cent last year. “The survey also found that 90 per cent of the respondents expect this year’s market to perform better or the same as last year, suggesting that the global economy will gradually recover and that the market is positive about prospects in the coming year,” added Mr Chau.

Other survey findings included:

  • Exhibitors and buyers were positive about this year’s prospects, with the lighting industry expressing the most optimistic sentiment.
  • Among traditional markets, North America and Western Europe are seen to have higher growth prospects in the coming two years.
  • Among emerging markets, the Chinese mainland tops the list, followed by ASEAN.
  • More than 80 per cent of the buyers expect the volume of products sold or sourced via Hong Kong to increase or remain unchanged in the coming year. The majority of buyers considered compliance with safety standards and product quality as competitive edges for Hong Kong suppliers.

Veolia Water Technologies Expands Presence in the Philippines with Water Treatment Solution for new ANDA Power Plant

    Jun 11, 2014

Singapore, June 2, 2014:- Veolia Water Technologies is once again proud to be selected by Formosa Heavy Industries (FHI) Taiwan to provide total water solutions for Trust International Paper Corporation’s (TIPCO) new ANDA power plant in the Philippines. The project follows last year’s contract won with FHI for San Miguel Corporation’s Limay power plant in the Philippines, and like the former, the ANDA project will include the Actiflo® technology amongst other Veolia water technologies for a complete, customized water treatment solution.

“This contract is a testament of Veolia’s capabilities as a water and wastewater solutions provider; with over 900 references and more than 20 years of experience with operating the Actiflo® system, Veolia has the deep insight and know-how that our partners and end users truly value. Our previous project with San Miguel Corporation was also an additional advantage for this new plant as both parties had positive experiences then, and were keen to work together again”, Carlo Patteri, Business Development Director South East Asia Industrial, said.

Veolia was also able to satisfy two other significant considerations from the customer. After the success of commercial operation of the first power plant, TIPCO is expecting to build the second power plant with a strict schedule that Veolia needed to commit to in order to deliver the ANDA plant on time.

“Veolia was able to add value to the project by providing a cost-effective solution to remove high silica for the plant’s cooling tower supply, thereby reducing overall project management costs, to help the customer to mitigate the high capital and operational expenditures associated with its tight schedule”, Robinson Lo, Business Development Director, Taiwan, in charge of this project, shared.

The ANDA power plant will feature a total Veolia wastewater treatment solution that includes a pre-treatment process, demineralized water system, condensate polisher, and wastewater treatment system. The feed water provided by coal-fired plants can contain impurities with high silica content and suspended solids, so an efficient water pretreatment system is essential to provide qualified water for demineralized water system. Veolia’s Actiflo® technology will be used during the pre-treatment and wastewater treatment stages to treat the industrial water.

Actiflo®, a high-rate clarification system with a small footprint, incorporates mircosand (Actisand™) to enhance the flocculation process, and is suitable for wastewater applications due to its high treatment efficiency in eliminating pollutants. Actiflo® is a reliable technology that also reduces capital and operational costs for customer, and an ideal solution for process water production and wastewater treatment.

Carlo Patteri concluded, “With the small footprint of the Actiflo® system in this project, Veolia was able to reduce significantly civil costs. Coupled with our ability to adhere to the customer’s tight deadline and our expertise in providing high quality cost-effective water and wastewater solutions, we are able to demonstrate our capabilities as a leader in water and wastewater solutions. Veolia is privileged to have the opportunity to work with FHI again, and look forward to working with others in the power industry and beyond.”

A2ELP participants visit school children in Sabah who are using technology to develop creative strategies to protect the environment.

Kuala Lumpur, June 10, 2014 — On May 30-June 5, The Asia Foundation and Australia-Malaysia Institute (AMI) hosted the 2014 cohort of the Australia-ASEAN Emerging Leaders Program (A2ELP) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, and Kuala Lumpur. Now in its fourth year, the annual, multi-day A2ELP program coincided with and included attendance at the 28th Asia-Pacific Roundtable (APR) convened annually by ISIS Malaysia.

Through the 2014 program, young leaders participated in the APR and engaged in strategic discussions on regional political, economic, and security challenges with the region’s most eminent experts; visited Sabah to experience and observe regional challenges and issues such as security, environment, and human trafficking in real time, as they are played out in communities, with local actors; and were coached and mentored in innovative leadership strategies which they applied to their own regional initiatives.

Drawing from key A2ELP learnings, participants collaborated to design initiatives around regional challenges and present project innovations to a panel of experts who assessed their viability and originality. Panel expert and Australian Ambassador to ASEAN Simon Merrifield remarked on the quality and diversity of the presentations: “The participants demonstrated a remarkable grasp of cross-regional themes and reflected the value of shared ideas. They worked together brilliantly to come up with innovative and viable solutions to profound challenges.”

The program, jointly funded by the Australian Government through the AMI and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, The Foundation and Genovasi, in cooperation with the Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, brought together inspiring young leaders from Australia and South East Asia, representing the government, non-government, corporate, and media sectors, and exposed them to high-level discussions on contemporary issues; provided a forum to develop their understanding of regional issues and capacity as regional leaders; and built long-term, productive linkages with each other and with the region’s leading thinkers and specialists.

“The program provided a platform to grow as a young professional, discuss issues prevalent in the Asia-Pacific region, and work collaboratively with emerging leaders from Australia and the ASEAN region,” said A2ELP participant Angelica Casado.

The Foundation has supported emerging leaders for decades. This year, as the Foundation marks 60 years in Asia, the nonprofit continues this tradition in partnership with AMI by nurturing the next generation of leaders in their efforts to respond to the critical issues impacting ASEAN and Australia.

    Picture:

From the middle of the 1990s, Eldon has been supplying P&V Elektrotechniek with customized standard special enclosures that are designed to protect the electrical controls inside from the harsh UV light and humidity found in tropical environments.

P&V Elektrotechniek is the largest independent panel builder in Belgium and works tirelessly to face the market’s challenges posed by constantly changing technologies. This implies the company’s suppliers share the same commitment.

The company was founded in 1986 and designs and assembles industrial low voltage switch cabinets. The company produces panels for use in some of the most extreme climates on the planet, the company operates from a 10,000 sq. meters state of the art plant focused on quality, craftsmanship, creativity and innovation.

Axel Roobaert, Sales Manager at Eldon Belgium stated that P&V Elektrotechniek relies on Eldon to provide customized enclosures that include tropicalized enclosures, customized cabinets with hole patterns and stainless steel 304 and 316 solutions. He also said that one example of how the customized enclosures differ from the standard enclosures is the fact that a modified type of powder coating is applied on them.

Axel Roobaert also stated that: “P&V Elektrotechniek is widely acclaimed in their field for delivering a specialized service tailored to the needs of individual customers. The company has built a solid reputation for its high reliability, strong technical knowledge and on-time delivery performance”.

The Eldon sales chief stated that the powder coating applied on the enclosure is 100 percent polyester rather than an epoxy coating. This makes the enclosures resistant in extreme environments with high humidity and UV rays. The enclosure is built to ensure that no insects can get inside, a very important factor in a tropical environment.

Aside from delivering unique enclosure solutions to P&V Elektrotechniek that even encompasses customized colors, Roobaert says the bottom line behind the successful long-term relationship is Eldon’s one hundred percent focus on customer satisfaction.
