Fringe programme line up offers latest industry news and networking opportunities
Automechanika Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s leading international trade fair for the automotive industry targeting trade visitors from ASEAN, will open from 7 – 9 March 2013 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre with its largest number of exhibitors.
The eighth edition of the show, which is sold out, is organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, in collaboration with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and is supported by the Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) together with 17 local and overseas organisations.
This year’s Automechanika Kuala Lumpur welcomes more than 180 exhibitors from 18 countries and regions to its show. The exhibiting countries and regions at the 5,500 sqm show are: Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, UK and the US. Of special interest are the new pavilions from Europe, India and Taiwan as well as the returning pavilions from China and Singapore.
A number of leading brand names are exhibiting such as Beta, CMC, Corghi, Launch Tech, Mazda, Ravaglioli, Shell Helix and Stahlwille.
Commenting on the show Mr Jason Cao, Senior General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd said: “The ASEAN region, of which Malaysia is a key player, is predicted to become the sixth biggest automotive global market by 2018. According to the Malaysian Automotive Association, in 2012, passenger vehicle sales increased 3.2 percent year-on-year to 552,189 units, while commercial vehicle sales jumped 16.2 percent to 75,564 units. This and other predictions are encouraging companies to invest in the fast growing ASEAN auto market. Furthermore, to increase their brand profile, many companies choose Automechanika Kuala Lumpur as one of their business and networking platforms.”

The Automechanika Kuala Lumpur Mechanics Challenge is organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and co-organised by MAI and the Department of Skills Development of Malaysia (JPK) and the Federation of Automobile Workshop Owners’ Association of Malaysia (FAWOAM). The event is sponsored by Shell Helix, Mazda, Unipac and Stahlwille.
A Mazda representative said that the company was pleased to be sponsoring “Mechanics Challenge” as it believed it was an effective approach to promote and motivate independent workshops technicians to upgrade their skills competency and discipline in repairing modern technology vehicles. As well as sponsoring the event, MAZDA will be exhibiting its latest “SkyActiv Technology – The Innovative ICE” to independent workshops and other show visitors.
Eight workshop teams will battle it out in the exciting skills event for the coveted Automechanika Kuala Lumpur Mechanics Challenge trophy. The final round of the challenge will consist of a series of practical tests to examine the expertise of the teams.
Fringe programme line up offers latest industry news and networking opportunities
Automechanika Kuala Lumpur’s diverse fringe programme includes the Malaysia Automotive Institute Aftermarket Conference and the FAWOAM Annual Convention which both cater to all levels of industry specialists.
The Malaysia Automotive Institute Aftermarket Conference with the theme of “Automotive Aftermarket: Towards Sustainability Development”, is organised by MAI and takes place on the first day of the show (7 March) in the Plenary Theatre at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Admission to the seminar is free of charge but registration is required.
Mr Madani Sahari, MAI’s Chief Executive Officer commented: “This seminar is one of the automotive industry’s most valuable educational and networking forums of the year. It is a great opportunity for automotive industrial professionals to network and learn in an atmosphere designed to create a lasting relationship.
The seminar will have speakers from Europe and Asia who will share their experiences and successes on a variety of topics which include aftermarket world trends, benchmarking the European aftermarket and developing a sustainable local aftermarket.”
The FAWOAM Annual Convention is scheduled for the second and third days of the show (8 – 9 March) in Hall 3 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Admission is free.
Commenting on the convention, FAWOAM president Mr Simon Too said: “Our event includes technical and management seminars about workshop management and technological advancements. It provides a unique platform to learn about the latest products, services, equipment and technology available to industry professionals.”
