SINGAPORE, 4 March 2013 - The Council for Private Education (CPE) Singapore and the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) Australia have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC). The MOC will see the CPE and TEQSA working to enhance regulation and quality assurance in both jurisdictions to improve the quality of private education institutions (PEIs) in Singapore and higher education in Australia.

The MOC was signed by Mr Brandon Lee, Chief Executive Officer of the CPE, and Dr Carol Nicoll, Chief Commissioner of TEQSA on the 28 February 2013 in Canberra, Australia, during the recent Universities Australia Higher Education Conference 2013.

Over the next three years, the CPE and TEQSA will exchange information as well as draw on each other’s expertise and experiences in the regulation and quality assurance of Singapore private education and Australian higher education providers respectively.

Mr Brandon Lee, Chief Executive Officer of the CPE, said, “Australian universities have a significant presence in Singapore’s private education industry. We share a similar mission with TEQSA to regulate and assure the quality of higher education delivered by our private providers here in Singapore. Through this agreement, we will exchange information and expertise and learn from each other’s experiences, so that students here can get the
best quality education”.

Australian universities offer the most number of external degree programmes in Singapore. In 2011, there were 23 Australian universities collaborating with local PEIs, offering more than 400 external degree programmes. 2 Bukit Merah Central | #01-05| Singapore 159835

About the Council for Private Education

The Council for Private Education (CPE) is a statutory board established in December 2009 to regulate the private education industry. Its mission is to raise standards in the private education sector through effective regulation, industry development and consumer education. To achieve this, the Council has implemented two schemes – the mandatory Enhanced Registration Framework and the EduTrust Certification scheme – to uplift and maintain standards in the private education sector. Besides its role as a sectoral regulator, the Council also provides student services and public education through its Student Services Centre, and seeks to enhance the capabilities and quality of the private education sector through industry development.
