Innovative NFC-enabled features to be rolled out gradually
Taipei - TAITRA has officially announced the availability of a major update to COMPUTEX TAIPEI’s official smartphone app. This update not only includes floor plans and exhibitor lists for the 2013 edition of the show, but also allows pre-registration directly in the app. Avant-garde NFC-enabled features such as using the app as a badge and RFID badge reading were demoed to the media.
According to IDC, 36% of smartphones shipped in 2012 are NFC-enabled, and it anticipates a 50% growth in 2013. In recognition of the trend, Walter Yeh, Executive Vice President of TAITRA, announced that the official app will support new NFC-enabled features such as acting as a badge replacement to enter the showground and badge reading for personal data exchange. These features will be rolled out gradually for Android phones that support NFC.
At a recent press conference, Miss COMPUTEX showed the media a beta version of the badge reading function, instantly capturing Walter’s personal details from his badge. The organizers say that those who pre-register through the app will also be able to use their NFC-supporting Android smartphone as a badge to enter the showground during the show this June.
With the support of the Taipei City Government, TAITRA will be providing free citywide Wi-Fi access codes to international visitors through the official app. These codes will be valid for the whole duration of the show, making the app more than ever an indispensable tool for COMPUTEX TAIPEI visitors.
The new version of the app builds on its widely successful predecessor, which provides practical features such as route planning, data exchange, travel information and navigation through augmented reality. Users of the previous version should receive notifications of the update, and those who have not already downloaded the app can easily download it from the App Store or Google Play by searching for the keyword “COMPUTEX TAIPEI”.
