31 May 2013 – HKTDC Entrepreneur Day opened today with more than 120 exhibitors taking part. The two-day fair continues through 1 June, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), Entrepreneur Day spotlights business opportunities and support services for entrepreneurs and those considering starting a business.
Spirit of Entrepreneurship
Legislative Council member Kenneth Leung was the guest of honour at this morning’s opening ceremony. Speaking at the opening, HKTDC Executive Director Fred Lam noted that “the spirit of entrepreneurship is essential to Hong Kong’s economic growth.” He added that “small and medium-sized enterprises, which make up 98 per cent of all businesses in Hong Kong, are the backbone of the economy.”
Money Matters
Highlights of this fifth edition include some 20 seminars. They range from this afternoon’s franchising opportunities in Asia to starting an online business on the Chinese mainland and tips for hiring the right staff, both taking place tomorrow.
Several seminars target the financial aspects of business, including an angel fundraising session this morning. Tomorrow, finance is the focus of seminars dealing with high rents in Hong Kong and the challenge of finding start-up funds.
Success Stories
The fair also features the business stories of a variety of successful entrepreneurs. They include Raymond Li, CEO of The Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation Ltd, Stark Chan, founder of Bull.B Tech and Ho Chi Pin, founder of Cocoa Pin.
A variety of organisations are on hand at the fair, offering the latest information on incubation programmes, business intermediaries, online business, accounting, legal advice, information technology, marketing and management support, intellectual property and more.
Connecting Business
New this year is “Deal Flow,” a deal-sourcing and matchmaking session featuring one-on-one meetings between potential investors and project owners.
Another new fair session, “Entrepreneur Arena,” lets young entrepreneurs present their business plans in public, with judges and audience members responding to their proposals and ideas.
