Eclecticism, Formalism, Maximalism and Materialism, at Trend Zone, Formex's section for trend inspiration, four of the season's most important trends are presented in an exhibition that is put together by the Swedish Fashion Council (Svenska Moderådet).
Formex is organizing Trend Zone for the third time in a row. Trend Zone is where visitors are offered new inspiration and knowledge. Four international trends interpreted from a Nordic perspective are showcased in an exhibition in Trend Zone. There is also a stage with lectures on current themes each day in Trend Zone.
The task of interpreting and shaping the fall and winter trends has gone to the Swedish Fashion Council. They have chosen to call the exhibition Cubism.
"We play with different cubes piled on top of each other like building blocks in the actual exhibition. And since Eclectic Touch, Eclecticism, is Formex’s overall trend theme, it seemed like a good idea to go on playing with some different ‘isms’,” explains Lotta Ahlvar, Swedish Fashion Council CEO.
The trends showcased in the exhibition are:
Eclecticism – mainly about mixes of styles. The interesting thing is that all periods are mixed together. Simple with elegant, inherited with newly bought, mass produced with handicraft, children's homemade works from daycare with design objects. Different styles and expressions are mixed with intuitive flair. The result is a nice new style.
Formalism – puts form ahead of function. There are currently many interesting forms in design and interior design. There are round and organic forms. For example, the form of a honeycomb can be found both as textile patterns and furniture forms. In parallel, rigidly studied forms with sharp corners and angles also exist. This style focuses on the form.
Maximalism – less is a bore. This style, which falls under the working title Maximalism, puts emphasis on extravagance and maximum visibility. It stands for something bombastic, on the verge of the forbidden. What really is bad taste? As much as the style serves as an ideal for interior design, it also provides inspiration and solid advice for store displays.
Materialism – focuses on different materials and surfaces. This style uses exclusive materials such as marble and copper. For example, you can find cutlery in pitch black titanium. However, this style also uses lots of cheap materials with a "Do it yourself feeling", such as raw wood and unpainted particle board. The material and the surface structure is more important than the color.
The Swedish Fashion Council will hold lectures related to the exhibition's trends each day. The Swedish Fashion Council and Formex are also publishing a joint trend guide.
Formex will be held on August 15-18 at Stockholmsmässan.
