GUANGZHOU, China, Nov.2, 2012 /PRNewswore/ – The American Chamber of Commerce in South China today announced details of its annual charity fundraising effort. This year’s program is co-organized by the Guangzhou People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center, aiming to raise donations of materiel and funds. Part of the donations will be distributed in Guangdong’s impoverished Zhang Dong Keng Village (part of Zengcheng city) on November 29. Additionally, cash donations will be used to finance medical treatments for orphaned children at the Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center. All donations will go through Guangzhou Youth Development Foundation.
AmCham South China President Harley Seyedin disclosed the plans and beneficiaries. He also noted that weeks before the official launch, Matthew Chapple, member of AmCham South China Board of Governors, senior VP of China of Mead Johnson Nutrition and general manager of Greater China, had already pledged 500,000 yuan in cash on behalf of the company. Guangzhou Jing Xing Real Estate Development Co., Ltd has also confirmed to donate 100,000 yuan.
Events planned under the cooperative effort include:
1. Press Conference, Nov. 1st
- To inform the press and the public about the background and action plan of the Charity Theme Events and to build awareness of the need for philanthropy and to collect donations for initiating poverty alleviation projects in Zhang Dong Keng Village and orphans in need of medical treatment.
- To call for more donors’ participation.
2. Inspection Tour of Zhang Dong Keng Village, Nov. 29th
A corporate delegation with potential investors and experts will visit Zhang Dong Keng Village for projects, accompanied by a team from the Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center who will provide free medical services to villagers, and build awareness of the need for philanthropy.

About Zhang Dong Keng Village
Zhang Dong Keng Village locates in the northern mountainous area of Paitan Town, Zengcheng City, It is surrounded by beautiful mountains and clean rivers and enjoys picturesque landscape and pleasant environment. In total, the village covers 1407 mu of paddy fields, 13,000 mu of mountain (of which, 6000 mu are planted with lychee and persimmon). Under the village there are 10 cooperatives of 433 households with a population of 2,360, among which, 43 households with the population of 118 are poverty-stricken.
