World's leading pharmaceutical event concluded with huge success

From July 2nd to 4th, the 27th INTERPHEX JAPAN (Int’l Pharmaceutical R&D and Manufacturing Expo/Conference) and 8th in-PHARMA JAPAN (Int’l Pharmaceutical Ingredients Expo & Conference) were held at Tokyo Big Sight with 942 exhibitors and 32,974 visitors. The total number of visitors expanded notably compared to that of the previous year.

Post Show Report 2014INTERPHEX JAPAN and in-PHARMA JAPAN have been contributing to the growth and innovation of the Japanese pharmaceutical industry for many years, generating new business opportunities for exhibitors and visitors. Japan is the world’s second largest market and the exhibition is now firmly established as one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical shows to get the latest trends and learn the new technologies. Not only almost are all the existing exhibitors coming back, more and more new companies are joining the exhibition every year. In particular, this year’s highlights were the Indian
Pavilion and the Korean Pavilion which led to an increase in the number of overseas exhibitors.

■ 2014 Partner Country: The Republic of India

The first ever “Partner Country” of INTERPHEX JAPAN and in-PHARMA JAPAN was the Republic of India, which is increasing its presence in the world’s pharmaceutical industry. India is among the top six producers of pharmaceuticals in the world and ranks fourth in terms of total pharma market share in the Asia Pacific. Senior officials from the Department of Commerce, along with representatives from FICCI (Federation of Indian Commerce and Industry) and a large contingent of Indian business leaders, represented the Brand India Pharma at the Indian Pavilion during the show. Mr. Rajeev Kher, Commerce Secretary of Ministry of Commerce and Industry, also gave a talk in the Keynote Session on “The India Pharmaceutical Industry - Hidden Potential Power “. Mainly organized by FICCI, the India Pavilion served as the meeting ground for many Japanese leaders and companies in the pharmaceutical industry. “Both Japan and India are progressing well in various areas of today’s pharmaceutical business. We should extend further cooperation and partnership between the two countries.” said Mr. Rajeev Kher.

Exhibition – Highlights of the show

INTERPHEX JAPAN covers a wide range of Pharmaceutical R&D and Manufacturing, from various kinds of manufacturing/processing equipment to lab equipment, contract services, packaging and other total solutions. The exhibition is considered as a substantive business platform which attracts visitors with purchasing authorities. Actual equipment and products were displayed at each booth and detailed technical consultations were conducted as well. This year’s number of overseas exhibitors has almost doubled since the previous show. The majority of them were from major pharmaceutical producing countries such as USA, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherland, Republic of Korea, China, Taiwan, and Indonesia. In addition to many overseas suppliers attending the show at their distributors’ booths, more and more companies tend to have their own booth to focus on the Japanese market.

Overseas exhibitors in the following zones particularly received extensive attention from visitors.

● PHARMACEUTICAL PACKAGING ZONE

The Pharmaceutical Packaging Zone was the largest area in the 27th INTERPHEX JAPAN. Many exhibitors showcased all kinds of products and technologies for pharmaceutical packaging, from large packaging equipment to containers, packaging materials and OEM. Actual products and samples were put on display or an assembly line as well. As Japan’s ONLY exhibition specialised in pharmaceutical packaging, major players such as IMA, GD Automation, Matsubo BOSCH, CKD, FUJI MACHINERY, ISHIDA, KYOTO SEISAKUSHO, MUTUAL, OMORI MACHINERY, QUALICAPS, ASAHI PRINTING, SOGO PRINTING & PACKAGING, SUMITOMO BAKELITE, TAISEI KAKO exhibited in this zone. More overseas packaging companies also tend to choose PHARMA PACK as their annual platform to target at the stable and promising Japanese pharmaceutical industry.

● Contract Services Zone

Not only the major contract pharma manufacturers in Japan such as PHIZER, CMIC, DAITO PHARMACEUTICAL, FUJIYAKUHIN, MOCHIDA PHARMACEUTICAL PLANT, NIPRO, CATALENT, PATHEON, but also overseas contract manufacturers such as ABBOTT, FRESENIUS KABI, HANMI PHARM., PATHEON, FARMA, TEVA PHARMA, and LTS LOHMANN exhibited in this zone with many other global companies. This is Japan’s LARGEST platform for pharmaceutical contract services.

● Laboratory Measurement/Analysis Equipment Zone

This zone is the best platform for companies with lab equipment to target at the Japanese pharmaceutical market. A large number of exhibitors had their own booth in this zone, including major players such as AGILENT TECHNOLOGIES, HITACHI HIGH-TECH SOLUTIONS, METTLER-TOLEDO, SHIMADZU, THERMO FISHER SCIENTIFIC, and TOKYO RIKAKIKAI.

8th in-PHARMA JAPAN is an international trade show specialised in pharmaceutical ingredients. Concurrently held with INTERPHEX JAPAN, this show particularly attracts industry key persons who are in charge of R&D or material purchase. This year, more exhibitors from India, including INDIAN DRUG MANUFUCTURERS’ ASSOCIATION, joined the show along with major players such as SANOFI, BASF JAPAN, EVONIK, ROCHE DIAGNOSTICS, SALTIGO, NAGASE, SHIN-ETSU CHEMICAL, and Dewoong Bio.
