There was a happy surprise for over a thousand MTR passengers today (26 September2014) who received special 35th Anniversary gifts from MTR representatives to thank them for their support since MTR started rail services on 1 October 1979.
The celebration was kicked off at MTR Hong Kong Station by Mr Lincoln Leong, Acting Chief Executive Officer of MTR Corporation, and other senior managers who presented nostalgic keychains to passengers. A first-generation entry gate also "came alive" to the delight of passengers. The keychains are designed in the shape of first-generation train seats, entry gates, straphangers and second-generation ticket issuing machines to revive good old memories with passengers.
The life-sized entry gate mascot, as well as a second ticket issuing machine mascot, will make unscheduled appearances at more locations in the railway network over the next four days (27 to 30 September 2014). During that period, MTR staff will be distributing the special 35th Anniversary gifts at selected times at 80 MTR and Airport Express stations (Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau, Racecourse and AsiaWorld-Expo stations not included) and 4 Light Rail stops (Yuen Long, Tin Shui Wai, Siu Hong and Tuen Mun stops) while stocks last.
"We know that a lot has changed over the past 35 years, but one thing that will never change is MTR's commitment to our home, Hong Kong, and to our customers, by providing one of the safest and most reliable rail services in the world. As we mark our 35 years of serving Hong Kong, we thank our customers and the Hong Kong community for their great support," added Mr Leong.
