TAIPEI - ASIATODAY.COM - The Asian-Pacific region is the third largest wine consuming continent after Europe and the Americas and within this region, China has become one of the world’s top wine drinking countries ranking on the 5th place of world wide consumption. While China is one of the Asian key export markets for wine due to its sheer size, other countries of this region have been growing vastly over the last two decades as well.

Taiwan's wine imports have grown at a compound annual growth rate of 26.8% between 2008 and 2012 and are expected to grow at double digits until 2017. A more varied and growing group of consumers, namely affluent youngsters and female connoisseurs, as well as a burgeoning knowledge of wine related culture are some of the key factors for the steady increase.

KAIGO Co., Ltd. analyzed the latest import data which was recently published by the National Treasury Administration / Ministry of Finance Taiwan. According to the statistics, the wine imports of the first three quarters of 2014 accounted for 129,478.60 hectoliters confirming a healthy market.

Famous wine producing countries like France, Spain, Chile and Italy still make up the bulk of the market share. With the rise of consumers and wine knowledge, larger imports of wines from other countries can be expected.

Exhibition organizer KAIGO Co., Ltd. aims to stimulate the local wine market with Taiwan’s largest professional wine exhibition Wine & Gourmet Taipei. The annual event supports international wineries to enter the flourishing Taiwanese wine market and educates the consumers with master classes held by international experts. With extensive marketing strategies and activities like the official Annual Selection, wineries from all over the world successfully find major importers and agents at the event. The 5th edition of Wine & Gourmet Taipei will take place June 26 - 28, 2015 at Taipei World Trade Center / Hall 3.

Inquiries regarding the market and the exhibition can be addressed to Mr. Stephan Ungewiss or Ms. Sherry Chen at +886 2 2595 4212 ext. 713 / 917 or via email at wgt@kaigo.com.tw
