Eight teams earn position in Automechanika Kuala Lumpur Mechanics Challenge 2015

The results are in from the first round of the Automechanika Kuala Lumpur Mechanics Challenge. Completing an online multiple choice exam on theories, the eight highest scoring teams among 16 registered teams have earned tickets to the final round. The challenge will take place at Automechanika Kuala Lumpur 19 – 21 March 2015 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Malaysia.

The eight finalist teams, consisting of Malaysian mechanics employed at independent workshops, include: AGP Motorsport, CPARA, CYL IPOH, Elegant Merlin Hero, Hoong Leong, LSLY, Starex and Win as One.

The grand final will include written and practical exams. Teams will have to diagnose and repair vehicle malfunctions within a time limit. The team’s scores will be indicative of their diagnostic and repair skills, with better skills earning higher points. The champion Mechanics Challenge team will receive RM 7,000 cash, a trophy and certificates. First runner-up will receive RM 5,000 cash, a trophy and certificates, Second runner-up will receive RM 3,000 cash, a trophy and certificates and teams in fourth to eighth place will receive RM 1,000 cash and certificates. The award presentation will be held during the Federation of Automobile Workshop Owners’ Association of Malaysia (FAWOAM)’s Annual Dinner.

Maintaining their “Diamond” sponsorship of the Mechanics Challenge is Shell Helix, the global petro chemicals company, which is providing motor oil products to the teams. Car manufacturer Mazda will again sponsor vehicles for the mechanics to work on during the competition’s final round. New product sponsors for the Mechanics Challenge 2015 are Wonder Internation, which will be providing car lifts and Newera Equipment, which will be providing oil drainers.

The Mechanics Challenge is organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) and the Department of Skills Development of Malaysia (JPK), and supported by the Federation of Automobile Workshop Owners’ Association of Malaysia (FAWOAM), the Federation of Engineering and Motor Parts Traders' Association Malaysia (FEMPTAM) and Persatuan Pengusaha Industri-Industri Bengkel Malaysia (PPIBM).
