On the evening of the 10th of November, the Chinese APEC dress worn by the leaders and their spouses reflected Chinese style and distinct characteristics. The textile design concept came from Professor Li Wei from the Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University.
From 2013, Professor Li Wei and more than ten students started with their APEC design task. They were involved in the design and Professor Li’s concept for the design work is to use traditional Chinese techniques, patterns, fabrics which reflect thousands of years of Chinese cultural heritage. The elegance in expression and sophistication in the techniques reflected the innovation and beauty behind Chinese design and fashion. In the end, many design concept like the collar design created by Professor Li were adopted. Such design was eventually made public for the whole world to see.
In fact, from the APEC designs, you can find a lot more design elements from the Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University. The decorative works at the residence of the leaders as well as the interior designs came from Professor Lin Lecheng, Associate Professor Hong Xingyu and Professor Ma Yixi. Associate Professor Wang Zhigang within 6 months led the team to complete all the video design and production at the Welcome Dinner of APEC2014. More professors were involved in the design work of the conference.
Tsinghua design reflects the richness of Chinese culture as well as the aesthetic fusion between China and the world.
