IFEMA Convenciones y Congresos was very active between March and June thanks to five large international congresses. The 3rd World ATM Congress, from 10 to 12 March; the 30th European Association of Urology (EAU), from 20 to 24 March; the 15th World Travel & Tourism Council summit (WTTC), from 15 to 16 April; the 77th Congress and Exhibition of the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), from 1 to 4 June, and finally; the National congress organised by the Spanish Endocrinology and Nutrition Society, SEEN, from 27 to 29 May.

These come in addition to other professional events such as Hoy es Marketing, on 23 April; Sportwoman 2015, on 8 and 9 March; Fujitsu World Tour 2015, on 9 June, and Evento Days, on 1 and 2 July. This activity confirms IFEMA's role as one of the main drivers behind the MICE sector in Spain, which once more places Madrid in 3rd place on the ICCA ranking of congress cities (only behind Paris and Vienna).

A total of 200 exhibitors and 6,000 professionals met at the World ATM Congress, the place for the international aeronautical world to meet and talk and one of the large forums for innovation in the sector. Among the activities held over the three days was ‘Free Education’, in which the new trends and the most productive techniques for the sector were presented. Furthermore, Madrid has secured this world congress, which has an economic impact of approximately 34 million euros for the capital, until 2017.

More than 12,000 experts from 117 countries registered for the 30th European Association of Urology (EAU) Congress, the largest European event in the field, where the latest scientific developments and the most important disease studies were displayed, as well as the latest technological innovations and the pharmacological developments for the treatment of different pathologies. One new development this year was that the Congress performed live operations during the meeting of the EAU Section of Uro-Technology (ESUT), where the most innovative surgical techniques were presented.

The 77th edition of the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) at IFEMA gathered 5,533 professionals and 358 exhibiting companies under the motto ‘Earth Sciences in relation to Energy and the Environment’. The international scientific community was brought together with the aim of reducing dependency on fossil fuels in order to improve the environment.

The 15th World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) brought together more than 1,000 representatives of the tourist industry from around the world, including 300 executive officers, government ministers, opinion leaders and 100 international media outlets. The aim of the WTTC was to promote the sustainable growth of the tourist industry by working with governments and international institutions in order to create employment, drive exports and generate prosperity. The Travel and Tourism sector plays a fundamental role in worldwide investment and growth. At the end of this year, tourism is expected to bring in 10% of the global GDP and employ 284 million people, 9.5% of total employment.

The Annual Congress of the Spanish Endocrinology and Nutrition Society (SEEN), which attracted more than 1,000 attendees from the endocrinology community and international experts in nutrition, dealt with the matters that most concern society and the professional sector. Diabetes mellitus, basic and molecular endocrinology, bone and phosphocalcic metabolism, miscellanea, neuroendocrinology, nutrition, obesity, thyroid, sexual iden¬ti¬ty and differentiation, and so on, are some of the clinical cases to be dealt with at this 57th Edition.

Other events held at IFEMA

The 5th edition of the Fujitsu World Tour, an important technology and business event gathering 2,000 professionals, was held to showcase and experiment with a whole technological universe and improve the efficiency and growth of organisations. The event displayed the latest technological trends in relation to data centres, mobility, cloud, big data, supercomputing and social media. The importance of the event must be stressed as the Fujitsu multinational itself decided also to add the “Fujitsu Innovation Gathering” European annual meeting, where the latest innovations being worked on by the company's laboratories are on display.

Feria de Madrid also hosted the 12th edition of Hoy es Marketing, the largest event for professionals and managers of the business world, Marketing, Communication and the Digital Economy. ESIC Business & Marketing School has established this meeting of over 7,000 professionals as a unique opportunity to see first-hand how companies understand and carry out the best business management in Spain.

IFEMA also received the Sportwoman Fair, a space dedicated to women's physical activity and a pioneering initiative bringing sport and women together. It was very widely attended and approximately 2,500 women took part in the different events. The fair was followed by the XI Circuito de la Carrera de la Mujer ‘Central Lechera Asturiana’, in which 32,000 runners met in the capital to support the proposal.

Furthermore, for another year IFEMA hosted one of the most significant meetings in the events sector, the 9th edition of evento Days, the events showroom, which attracted nearly 100 exhibitors and 1,800 attendees in an environment that enabled them to discover the latest innovations, learn new techniques and formats and do intensive networking in what is considered the event par excellence in the industry. The 10th eventoplus Awards Ceremony was held as part of evento Days, an industry-wide celebration recognising the best events of the year.

Collaboration of IFEMA Convenciones y Congresos with ACIE

The International & European Association Congress (ACIE), held from 5 to 7 May in Lausanne (Switzerland), received the participation of IFEMA Convenciones y Congresos as a collaborator in the business area. The Congress programme focused on the aspects that have been identified by employees of the associations as the most important and inspiring of this time. Some of the activities that aroused most interest were the meetings on social media tools and strategies in organising events.
