Commenting on the 2015 fairs, Ms Lucia Wong, Deputy General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd, expressed: “The year 2015 has certainly been a prosperous one for the intelligent building system and smart home markets. New innovations and total solutions have been the main focuses of development with the integration of different technologies and systems also being encouraged due to heightened emphasis on end-user experience. In support of the meteoric development in these markets, the themes of both SIBT and SSHT will focus heavily on smart technologies. By bringing the two fairs together, we aim to offer visitors a platform that is larger in scale, and full of technologies and solutions related to everything from smart homes to intelligent buildings. We are excited to see the synergies that will be created by these two fairs this September. The diversity of the products and solutions on offer creates great opportunities for professionals across different disciplines to collaborate with one another. This truly is a one-stop sourcing platform for the system integrators, building contractors, architects, designers and planners.”

Global organisations and industry elites to highlight key technological advancements

New innovations and technological advancements are the driving forces behind recent intelligent building and smart home developments. As technology-focused fairs, SIBT and SSHT successfully gather global organisations, reputable enterprises and industry elites to unveil the latest technological and market developments. Some of the industry trends to be covered include:

Networking and communication in buildings and homes

The connected home and building controls cover a variety of building systems including HVAC, lighting, fire, safety and security, and access systems. Industry players have noticed that systems present in buildings and homes often do not share the same communications protocols, which makes connecting them both time-consuming and resource-intensive, especially for proprietary protocols. A shift towards more open protocols is taking place to allow more manufacturers to sell in and serve the market.

With strong support from the industry, the fairs will welcome reputable international building standard organisations to exhibit and speak at a concurrent event – the “Intelligent Building and Smart Home Standard Forum”. Their participation enriches the show’s already comprehensive offerings with value-added networking opportunities and technology exchange. Participating associations and their topics of discussion include:

* KNX Association – KNX Technical Forum – focus on international communication standards for home and building control systems, as well as the efficient use of energy

* LonMark International – Introduction to open systems: developing building, streetlight and smart city applications using open control networking standards

* EnOcean Alliance – EnOcean batteryless wireless technology for intelligent buildings and smart homes

* Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) – Going mainstream in the smart home

* Zigbee Alliance – The application enabler in the IoT era

* Z-Wave Alliance – More brands, more products, more choices

Cloud-based technologies in smart homes and buildings

The cloud adds a new dimension to the smart home by allowing content and data to be hosted outside the home network in an away-mode that is still accessible. Placing information into the network cloud helps reduce the complexity of managing software and interoperability of devices inside the home.

In recognition of the increasing importance of the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud platform technologies, the 2015 fairs will debut the “Cloud Platform and Big Data Technology and Solution Zone” and forum on “Innovative Applications of Cloud Platform Technologies and Future Trends of Smart Home”. Leading industry players are invited to share their new developments in cloud platform technologies and innovative applications. Guest speakers and their corresponding topics of discussion include:

* Mr Wang Zheng, Operations Director, Haier Guang Ke Digital Technology Co Ltd – 2015 U+ Platform Development

* Mr Huang Zhuo, CEO, GizWits – IoT and cloud platforms accelerate intelligent technologies

* Mr Gao Ziguang, Head of Xiaomi Smart Home, Xiaomi – Introduction of Xiaomi Smart Home Platform

* Mr Shi Kong, Director of Alibaba Smart Life Product, – If Slow Hardware Meets the Fast Smart System
* Ms Lei Qiaoping, CEO, xlink – New Cloud-based Technologies for the Smart Home

Mr Wang Zheng, Operations Director of Haier Guang Ke Digital Technology Co Ltd, shared his expectations for the year. He said: “Smart home will definitely be an industry trend in the future, and it is important for industry players to understand customers’ needs. By participating in the ‘Innovative Applications of Cloud Platform Technologies and Future Trends of Smart Home’ forum, we aim to meet more industry peers, explore new projects, discover new cooperation opportunities and facilitate development in the smart home industry.”

Mr Shi Kong, Director of Alibaba Smart Life Product will also be a forum guest. He noted: “The development of intelligent technologies begins with the concept of connectivity. Our objective for participating in the forum is to share our ideas and thoughts on intelligent hardware, as well as learn more about the forum and exhibition.”

Strong programme of concurrent events fosters exchange of new ideas

One of the most valuable aspects of the Shanghai fairs is a strong line-up of seminars held alongside the main exhibition. The seminars bring together field experts and end-users to discuss the latest technological advancements in the industry and exchange ideas for facilitating greater future developments. Diverse topics cover comprehensive market information such as:

* 2015 Modular Data Centres and Cabling Forum

* China Smart Hotel Construction Seminar and China Hotel Engineering Management Forum (Eastern China)
* Intelligent Technology Innovations and Modern Building Developments Forum
* China Smart Home Industry Alliance Forum (Eastern China) - Solutions of Voice Control in Smart Home
Apart from the concurrent interactive programme, another key highlight will be the debut of the “New Technology and Product Launch” event. With the theme “Explore Intelligent Living Innovations”, the event will have 12 industry leading organisations and enterprises introducing their innovative household products, technologies and concepts.

A participating member of the event is the China Smart Home Industry Alliance. Mr Zhou Jun, the General Secretary of the group, stated: “We will introduce the VillaKit intelligence platform version 1.0, the world's first Han Chinese language smart home semantics library and control scenario library, P2C power pulse communications and intelligent control technology at the event.”
