SINGAPORE – 4 December, 2012 – Last night 3 Dec the Smartest Singapore Grand Final took place successfully at NTUC Auditorium. The six champions are Mikael Mohammad Taib, P1, New Town Primary School; Matthew Lee, P2, Nanyang Primary School; Dylan Ng, P3, Montfort Junior School; Sofia Mojica, P4, CHIJ Our Lady Queen of Peace; Liang Yi Loy, P5, St. Anthony’s Primary School; Maheshwaran Windersalam Shanmugasundar, P6, St. Andrew’s Junior School.
During the Grand Final, the top two children in each category came on the stage to race against each other in the cheers of their friends and family. Children answered questions in Mathematics, English, Languages and General Knowledge blended in the beautiful 3D worlds including the stunning Singapore world.
“The Grand Final was a magnificent occasion,” Shane Hill, Smartest Singapore Chief Organiser, said. “The atmosphere was electric and it was wonderful to see the crowd cheering the children on. In many ways it was like a major sporting event, only this time it was academics.”
Liang Yi Loy, P5 champion, St. Anthony’s Primary School, said: “Smartest Singapore was both educational and fun and I enjoyed it very much. I will definitely convince my friends to join with me next year!”
Each champion wins a three-day trip to Hong Kong Disneyland with his or her parent. The second to eighth runner up in each age group wins a Super Explorer card that grants the child and the parent unlimited access to the top twelve most much-loved attractions in Singapore such as Night Safari, Underwater World & Dolphin Lagoon, Singapore flyer, etc. in three consecutive days.
Smartest Singapore is an online educational event for all Singapore primary school children from P1 to P6. Students play in 100 second speed challenges in languages (English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil), mathematics and general knowledge. The event is organised by Skoolbo and supported by Samsung, Microsoft, Collins, F&N Magnolia, Swensen’s, Bioglan, ArtScience Museum, the Star Vista and the Media Development Authority of Singapore.
Children from 118 primary schools in Singapore answered correctly 2,725,288 total correct questions in the Smartest Singapore Preliminary Round . The top 100 students from each category took part in the Semi-Final on 1 December. There was an average improvement of 42.6% among children who have played more than 100 games on Smartest Singapore.
