As the countdown to August’s Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles – Autumn Edition continues, recent economic data out of China suggests cause for optimism in the domestic home textiles market. While China’s overall economy is growing at a slower pace, with 2015 GDP growth at 6.9%, the home textiles market is in better shape. According to a report by the China Home Textile Association (CHTA), sales figures from some of China’s most important home textile sourcing markets grew strongly between January and September 2015. Haining China Home Textile City, a decorative fabric market, Dieshiqiao Home Textile Market for bedding products, as well as Gaoyang Commerce City for towelling recorded sales increases of 40%, 9.5% and 4.5%, respectively, during this period.

Apart from the promise reflected by this economic data, consumer trends also favour overseas suppliers according to Ms Wendy Wen, Senior General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd. “Chinese consumers are increasingly demanding high quality and luxury home products, and are paying more attention to stylish and personalised home décor items such as tailor-made digital printing products,” she explained. “This change certainly creates strong potential overseas suppliers of premium and high quality products.”

The huge demand for home renovation projects in China also creates opportunities for home textiles producers. With reference to a domestic home living website, the value of home renovation projects is forecast to exceed USD 48 billion annually in coming years. Furthermore, according to figures from 2014, textile products account for around 25% of the total cost of home renovation projects in China.

Additional day added to take advantage of strong demand

In order to assist exhibitors to take advantage of these strong market conditions, the Autumn Edition of Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles will be extended from three to four days. Held from 24 – 27 August, the fair will occupy six halls of the National Exhibition and Convention Centre (Shanghai). Compared to a single hall for overseas exhibitors in 2015, this year international exhibitors and overseas country pavilions will showcase their latest collections in hall 4.1, while domestic and overseas exhibitors featuring products within the whole-home style concept, as well as editors, will be located in hall 5.1.

Leading domestic bedding suppliers confirm participation for Spring Edition in March

Following Heimtextil Frankfurt in January, Messe Frankfurt’s next Interior & Contract Textiles event will be Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles – Spring Edition, which takes place from 16 – 18 March in hall 5.2 of the National Convention & Exhibition Center. March is the peak sourcing season in China for finished products, particularly bedding items, and this market has been growing rapidly in recent years. According to market research conducted by CCPIT, 2015 domestic bedding sales in China reached USD 49 billion, an increase of 2.7% compared to 2014. Reflecting this growth, a number of top domestic bedding suppliers, including Bejirog, Beyond Group, Esteem Home, Fuanna, Luolai, Menglan, Shuixing, South Bedding Series and Yuyue along with towelling suppliers including Cottonfield, Dadong, Grace, Loftex and Sunvim Group have confirmed their participation in March’s Spring Edition.

Held alongside this fair are four other textile events. These include Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Spring Edition, Yarn Expo Spring, PH Value and CHIC, and together these five fairs create an unrivalled platform in the textile industry to meet potential buyers.

Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles – Spring & Autumn Editions are organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd; the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT; and the China Home Textile Association (CHTA).
