A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the newly built Institute of Chemical Biology and Nanomedicine of Hunan University on May 27 morning, marking its official putting into operation.
Initiated in 2013, the Institute was supported by the State Key Laboratory of Chemo/Biosensing and Chemometrics, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and College of Biology of the university. World top technicians and experts in nanotechnology and chemical biology joined the Institute, represented by Chad Mirkin, member of President Barack Obama’s President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), American Academy of Medicine, and National Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Engineering of America. In 2015, the expert team of the Institute as one of only five university teams was included in China’s Thousand Talent Program for Top-notch Talent & Innovation Team.
Institute of Chemical Biology and Nanomedicine targets to building China’s first world-level research center in this field. Since its preparation three years ago, it has taken effective efforts in world leading nanotechnology, molecular probe, and targeted medicine. Fruitful results have been achieved in identification of biomarkers of serious diseases, and drug development, which are greatly meaningful to clinical medicine reform and technical upgrading throughout the world.
Jiang Changzhong, secretary of the CPC Hunan University Committee, President Duan Xianzhong, Vice President Chen Shou, Assistant President Yu Dejie, CAS academician Tan Hongwei, and Prof. Chad A. Mirkin were present at the ceremony.
