(Hong Kong, 3 January 2013) - ASIA TODAY - The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (“HKCEC”) was Hong Kong’s featured landmark in the city’s biggest ever New Year countdown celebrations event.

Hong Kong’s famous Victoria Harbour and city skyline were illuminated in spectacular fashion at midnight on 1 January 2013, as part of an eight-minute pyrotechnics show in the “New Year‧New World – Hong Kong Countdown Celebrations” organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (“HKTB”). A total of seven buildings were featured in the show, with the HKCEC taking centre stage. That involved setting up forty pyrotechnics points on the HKCEC’s rooftop and fixing a giant LED screen to the HKCEC façade, displaying New Year’s messages and then the countdown clock just before midnight.

With the theme “New Year‧New World”, this year’s countdown event was the biggest in scale since the HKTB first introduced the “Hong Kong Countdown Celebrations” six years ago. For the first time in the event’s history, both sea- and land-based pyrotechnics were launched, to spectacular effect. The show was enjoyed not just by on-site spectators, but also by audiences around the world, as the HKTB shared a live satellite feed with major international media.

Management and staff members of Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Ltd (“HML”), the HKCEC’s professional private management company, were heavily involved in this unique countdown event. Besides taking part at the planning and preparation stages, they also provided support and safety advice on the night itself. “The entire HML team and I were very proud to be part of the stunning pyrotechnics show that brought Hong Kong into 2013 with such a bang,” said Ms Monica Lee-Müller, Managing Director of HML. “We wish everyone in Hong Kong, and those around the world, the very best for 2013.”

Located on the prime waterfront, the HKCEC was Hong Kong’s featured landmark in the city’s biggest ever New Year countdown celebrations event.
