Ministry of Mines, Expert Speakers and Impactful Program Line-up Define CMT’s 2nd Myanmar Mining Summit in Yangon

ASIA TODAY - Official host Ministry of Mines and global event organizer Centre for Management Technology to stage the 2nd Myanmar Mining Summit in Yangon on 21-24 January 2013 specifically to zoom into the highly anticipated updates on the amended mining laws and fiscal regime.

With the new foreign investment law in place, investors worldwide are eyeing Myanmar – the new frontier market of Asia – exploring business ventures in various sectors including mining.

To be officially opened with a keynote address by Union Minister of Mines, His Excellency Dr. Myint Aung, the [2nd Myanmar Mining Summit focuses on issues and challenges as well as solutions and opportunities that will aid keen investors in moving into the new market. Delegates at the 4-day meet stand to gain first-hand information from the Ministry of Mines officials, including U Win Thein, Director-General of the Department of Mines, as he delivers an update on the proposed new mining law.

U Aung Naing Oo, Director-General of the DICA will elaborate on the new foreign investment law and how this new FDI law can encourage foreign investment and participation in Myanmar's mining sector.

A pre-conference workshop on “Doing Business in Myanmar Mining” led by Mr. Alessio Polastri, Managing Director at P&A Asia, provides potential investors with introduction to the new laws and the mining sector business environment. A legal expert based in Yangon, Mr. Polastri offers relevant industry advice, especially in the area of successful joint ventures and partnership structures.

Two post-conference workshops on “Mining in Emerging Economies” and “Prospectivity & Geological Landscape of Myanmar’s Mines & Minerals” serve to delve into the specifics of the mining industry that keen investors ought to know.

In response to industry requests, official host, Ministry of Mines, is steering one-to-one business meetings with delegates to address mining investment concerns. These meeting slots are limited, available on first come basis and may be reserved while submitting online registration.

Since March 2012, CMT has organized nine summits in Yangon, attracting over 2000 delegates from over 42 countries.
