One of the objectives of the Healthcare IT India Summit is to bring in the industry experts and regulators to converse and present the scope for the Healthcare Informatics. The summit will be held on 23th & 24th April, 2013, in Hyderabad and will focus on integrating Healthcare with Information Technology to make way for the future of Healthcare management system.
Healthcare has come a long way from being perceived as a sector that functions solely on human resource. Ever since software technology made its presence felt, more than 25 years ago, it was identified that IT will make a difference in every sector. Healthcare services are getting more compliant to Information Technology and its ways. Software gurus have strongly believed that development and delivery of medicine will be one area where this medium is likely to have immense benefit to the large Indian population.
Government initiatives in the public health sector have been increasing by the day and India possesses a phenomenal opportunity to be a worldwide leader in the healthcare IT. Healthcare providers in India are estimated to spend about 57 billion rupees (US$ 1.05 billion) on IT products and services in 2013. Which means that the IT spend, will go up by 7 percent vis-à-vis last year. The expenditure on internal IT staff is guesstimated to be at 18 percent in comparison with the other sectors.
In order to meet revised cost of construction, in March 2010 the government allocated an additional US$ 1.23 billion for six upcoming AiiMs-like institutes and up-gradation of 13 existing government medical colleges. 100 percent FDI is permitted for health and medical services under the automatic route. The National rural Health Mission (NHrM) had allocated US$ 10.15 billion for the up-gradation and capacity enhancement of healthcare facilities.
