Paintings and sculptures by contemporary Hong Kong artists take centre stage as part of Hong Kong Arts Month 2016 in a new “art in mtr – arttube” exhibition entitled “Art@MTR” that opened today (2 March 2016) near Entrance/Exit J of MTR Central Station. Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), the exhibition, featuring 13 sets of art pieces created by resident artists from the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre, will run until 30 April 2016.
A special treat has also been arranged for customers passing through the Central Subway of Hong Kong Station. The Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra has been invited by the HKTB to conduct a performance at the MTR’s “living art” platform on 11 March from 6pm to 6:45pm.
“MTR is pleased to be a part of Hong Kong Arts Month for the second year by offering our ‘art in mtr’ platform to stage an exhibition of contemporary Hong Kong art as well as a live classical music performance for our customers. We hope to bring delights to our customer journeys through art and music appreciation in our stations,” said Ms Linda So, Corporate Affairs Director of MTR Corporation.
“Art@MTR” is the latest in a regular series of “art in mtr – arttube” exhibitions. For over 10 years, “arttube” has provided a platform for aspiring artists, designers and talented individuals in the creative industries to showcase their works to the community. MTR hosts a wide range of exhibitions and live performances throughout the year under the art in mtr initiative which also enlivens passengers’ journeys with attractive permanent art pieces in station concourses and platforms to create a more vibrant and stimulating environment for everyone to enjoy.
