25 February 2013 – Winners of the 14th Hong Kong Jewellery Design Competition were announced today at a press conference. The winners and finalists’ pieces will be displayed at Asia’s largest spring jewellery fair, the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, which opens 5 March and continues through 9 March at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Some 240 entries were judged on creativity and innovation, aesthetics and craftsmanship, marketability, wearability and topic relevance. Both Open Group and Student Group categories competed under a “Glitter in Motion” theme.

Best of Show
Three entries in the Open Group were honoured with Best of Show awards, including Wong Suk Hing’s “We will Dance,” a luxurious and intricately designed glove. Ms Wong, who also won the competition’s Craftsmanship & Technology Award, was sponsored by Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Co Ltd.

The other two Best of Show winners were: Ko Wut Ming, for a brilliantly designed bracelet titled “Dragonflies’ Symphony,” sponsored by Jewel Arts Ltd; and Ho Kwan Po. Ms Ho’s “Life,” a delicate, seashell-styled pearl brooch, was sponsored by Luk Fook Holdings (International) Co Ltd.

The three “Best of Show” winners will participate in a five-day jewellery design course in Japan organised by Hiko Mizuno College of Jewellery.

Student Awards
Student Group Champion Pang Horng, who attends the Hong Kong Design Institute, won for “Butterfly Dancing,” an elegant ring. Cheung Shek Ching, from the Hong Kong Management Association, took first Runner-up honours for “Endless River,” a striking silver pendant with sapphires. Second Runner-up was So Tze Lok, a Hong Kong Design Institute student. Mr So’s winning entry, “Chord of Water,” is a stylish necklace of transparent plastic beads and a diamond.

The design competition was organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the Hong Kong Jewellers’ & Goldsmiths’ Association, the Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers Association, the Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers’ Association and the Diamond Federation of Hong Kong, China.
